A space to let you know all about NIcholas Electrical and current industry standards and things we have been working on.
Not All EICR Reports Are Created Equal – Why a Thorough Electrical Inspection Matters
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) should give you peace of mind, not leave you confused, concerned or facing a list of unexplained electrical problems.
Unfortunately, poor-quality EICR reporting remains a concern within the electrical industry. Inaccurate classifications, insufficient testing and unclear recommendations can leave property owners unsure about the safety of their electrical installations or facing potentially unnecessary expense.
At Nicholas Electrical, we believe that an EICR should be much more than a box-ticking exercise.
As NICEIC Approved Contractors, we provide comprehensive electrical inspections, clear reporting and straightforward advice for homeowners, landlords and commercial property owners throughout Sussex, Surrey and Kent.
The Problem with Poor-Quality EICR Reports
An EICR assesses the condition of an existing electrical installation and identifies defects, deterioration and potential safety concerns.
However, not every electrical inspection is carried out or reported to the same standard.
Some of the problems that can arise from poor-quality EICR reporting include:
- Electrical defects being incorrectly classified.
- Genuine electrical safety concerns being overlooked.
- Insufficient inspection or testing.
- Recommendations for unnecessary remedial electrical work.
- Reports containing confusing technical terminology without adequate explanation.
- Property owners being unsure which electrical repairs are urgent and which are simply recommended improvements.
These issues can be particularly frustrating for landlords, business owners and commercial property managers who rely on accurate electrical reports to make informed decisions about their properties.
An EICR should identify genuine safety concerns, not create unnecessary confusion.
What Should a Good EICR Include?
A professional Electrical Installation Condition Report should provide a clear assessment of the condition of an electrical installation, based on an appropriate inspection and testing process.
Depending on the installation and agreed extent of the inspection, this may include examining electrical distribution equipment, protective devices, wiring systems, earthing and bonding arrangements.
The report should clearly identify any observations, explain their classification and provide information about the overall condition of the installation.
At Nicholas Electrical, we believe that communication is just as important as technical expertise.
Our aim is to ensure customers understand the findings of their report and what action, if any, is required.
Understanding EICR Classification Codes
Electrical reports use classification codes to indicate the significance of observations.
C1 – Danger Present
An immediate electrical safety danger has been identified. Immediate action is required.
C2 – Potentially Dangerous
A potentially dangerous condition has been identified and urgent remedial action is required.
C3 – Improvement Recommended
An improvement is recommended, but a C3 observation alone does not make an EICR unsatisfactory.
FI – Further Investigation Required
Further investigation is required without delay to establish whether danger or potential danger exists.
Understanding these classifications is important, particularly when considering remedial electrical work.
We believe customers should be given clear explanations rather than simply being presented with a list of technical observations.

Five-Star Feedback from Our Customers
We're always delighted when customers recognise the care and attention our team puts into its work.
We recently received this fantastic five-star Google review from Alexandros Kakavelakis, following EICR inspections at two properties.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We needed two EICR reports for our properties, and Andrew and his team at Nicholas Electrical were fantastic. They arrived on time, communicated clearly, and were friendly throughout the process. The work was carried out efficiently - they were methodical, left both properties spotless (like no work had even taken place), and were flexible with our requests. If you're looking for a reliable and professional electrical team, I highly recommend Nicholas Electrical!
